Croquis – Pocket Portrait of Marty Simon – In memory of my friend Marty Simon, who passed away recently. Loose graphite and watercolor croquis pocket portrait. Seven by five inches on Lanaquarelle cold-press stock.
Unfortunately, Marty contracted Polio at an early age, but he never allowed his disability to interfere with his quality of life. He became a successful businessman and celebrated Adman, writer, guitarist and eternal rock n’ roller. He was also my mentor. Rest in Peace my good friend.

Popular in the 16th and 17th centuries, small portraits were also called Limnings (or Miniatures). The term refers to the act of depicting or describing in painting by means of pencil or brush. The portraits of family members and loved ones were created in watercolors on prepared ivory, card paper, vellum or copper.
