‘Looking Up / Winter’ – The Artworks of RUSSELL RISKO. A semiabstract study of a skyward anatomical structure. This painting is one in a series titled ‘Looking Up’. This series explores the divergence and deviation symbolized through anatomical tree branch structures and negative/positive leaf cluster patterns.
I find the near-to-far points of view interesting, as they offer a challenging opportunity to create. This, along with earth-to-sky perspectives, provide areas of visual interest that may otherwise go undetected and unexplored.
The series title ‘Looking Up’ also refers to an idea that things are getting better. The grief surrounding the recent political unrest, the pandemic, and the alteration of life that we’ve all endured is cause for hope that the current state of things will soon improve.
Likewise, the Branching Out affect suggests movement away from that which we once were. To widen one’s interests; to explore something new; to expand the scope of expertise. And, to do this to be better and improve ourselves.
‘Looking Up / Winter’ – watercolor, gouache and wax pencil on Strathmore Imperial H/P.

Why I Don’t Sell Prints of My Work
I love to draw and paint. My passion is in the creation. I’m not interested in the minutiae of prepping and selling prints of my work. I price my original artworks affordably, just to cover my material costs – plus a modest margin. I want my artworks to be collected, enjoyed and priced within most anyone’s budget.
